Immigration services for Canadian employers

When a Canadian employer wants to hire or retain a foreign worker, it may have its own immigration obligations before the worker can apply. The correct process depends on the position, worker and whether an LMIA, exempt category, provincial pathway or another option is involved.

01

Employer consultation

A consultation can identify what should be assessed before the business starts recruitment, portal or nomination steps.

02

LMIA-supported hiring

A Labour Market Impact Assessment is an employer-side process under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. Requirements change, so the applicable stream and current obligations should be assessed rather than relying on fixed wage or recruitment rules.

03

LMIA-exempt hiring

Some employer-specific permits may be supported without an LMIA under the International Mobility Program. The employer may still have compliance or Employer Portal responsibilities.

04

Provincial employer-supported pathways

Provincial nomination pathways may require the employer to qualify separately and provide information directly to the province. Current requirements must be checked.

05

Employer services may include

  • Employer immigration consultation
  • Preliminary LMIA or exemption assessment where offered
  • Employer-document and job-offer review
  • Coordination with a worker’s permit application
  • Provincial employer-supported assessment
  • Separate employer representation where accepted
