Permanent residence

Express Entry

Express Entry is the federal online system used to manage applications under the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program. Eligibility for the pool is not the same as receiving an invitation to apply.

01

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

For eligible skilled workers with qualifying Canadian work experience. The NOC should reflect duties performed, not only the job title.

02

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

For eligible skilled workers with qualifying Canadian or foreign experience. Its minimum requirements and selection criteria apply before Express Entry ranking is considered.

03

Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

For eligible workers in qualifying skilled trades. Its requirements differ from the other programs, so the correct program should be identified first.

04

Before creating or updating a profile

Profile information may later need to be supported after an Invitation to Apply, so it should be prepared with the eventual permanent-residence application in mind.

  • Confirm the Express Entry program requirements you meet
  • Identify the correct NOC
  • Review language-test validity and results
  • Confirm education and ECA requirements
  • Calculate qualifying experience carefully
  • Review family and immigration history
  • Check proof-of-funds requirements
  • Ensure every declaration can be documented

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

If I am eligible for Express Entry, will I receive an invitation?

Not necessarily. Program eligibility and receiving an Invitation to Apply are separate questions. Ranking and the type of invitation round also matter.
